Neither Jerez nor our community is in anyway an expat ghetto!! There are plenty of expats around, but not enough to trouble us!! There are two friendly English couples in our development of about 100 dwellings. To live in Jerez it certainly would be a good idea to learn Spanish, however English is taught in schools and most younger Spaniards can and do talk the language when necessary. But the kids love to practise their language skills and thus themselves become good teachers of Spanish. The past prosperity of Jerez was based on the very heavy investment of time, money and love by the English (and the Irish too) in the Sherry trade. Most visitors from the British Isles feel this empathy. Even the Scots have roots here because of the seville orange/whisky barrel trade with Dundee!
The winters are both short and mild - we are just on the Spanish side of the Algave.
